Joe Cart : Caroling Edition took place yesterday evening. The Joe Cart is a project by John Ossowski, a West Utica Community Advocate who believes that through little events like this, the community can come together for the good of the future. John bikes around on his custom made Joe Cart (which is made out of recycled materials), and serves coffee donated by Utica Coffee Roasters. Volunteers like Mark Ziobro from the Utica Phoenix were on hand to help serve Hot Chocolate and Cookies to the people of West Utica. John said “All I need is about 6 volunteers to make this project successful”, and he did just that. The Joe Cart caroled down Cleveland Avenue, then to some local shops around the corner. Kids from Kernan Elementary rushed to the cart to see what all of the fuss was about. They left with with cups filled with Hot Chocolate and holiday cheer. The Joe Cart stopped at the ever popular Tramontane Cafe, and then an even longer stop at the Polish Community Center where they were participating in BINGO. The singing was pretty good too! All of the people that experienced the Joe Cart gave positive feedback, and you could see it in the smiles they displayed. The Joe Cart was sponsored by Utica Coffee Roasting Company, Razzle Dazzle Costume Company, and Jewel of Denile.

The Swordfish Trombones lit up the Tramontane Cafe last night with their “Tramily Christmas Variety Show”. It was jam packed with old school Christmas humor, skits, and music. There was barely any room to walk around, and every seat in the place was taken. Coffee and tea cups seemed to be flying about the venue like Beauty and the Beast, and almost 1 million cameras (both photos and video) were capturing the event. If you have photos or videos of the event, and you would like to share, send us your link! For the full photo album, you can visit theKDCF.com Facebook Page.
BookDecay.com to donate 20 Cents for every review in the month of December. The proceeds will go to the Toys for Tots Foundation.

While a senior at St. John Fisher College in Rochester, NY, Utica native Rocco Carzo created BookDecay.com to help students save money on textbooks. Now, in addition to helping college students, he wants to let their actions contribute to helping others in need during this holiday season. For the month of December, BookDecay.com will be donating $0.20 for every single review provided on their site and giving all of the proceeds to the Toys for Tots Foundation to help children who are less fortunate.

It’s simple: the more reviews students provide, the more money that is donated to the Toys for Tots Foundation and the more children in need are helped. Reviewing is simple, and it only takes about five minutes on the site. That brief moment of your life can honestly lead to a giving a child a holiday moment that he or she will remember forever. As students spend their time each day studying, writing papers, and preparing for presentations as the semester comes to a close, BookDecay.com hopes that students will take a few minutes out of their busy holiday schedule to do something good for a child in need.

BookDecay.com is considered by many the “RateMyProfessor.com for Textbooks” – students share with one another how, or if, their professor actually uses their textbooks so students don’t waste their money on them. After launching on Sept. 1, 2011, BookDecay.com currently offers access to over 100 schools from across the country. In addition to continuing to expand, the company’s goal is to improve it’s offerings to become the only necessary and informative destination on the Internet for textbooks; and eventually they will be creating a BookDecay.com scholarship fund.

For students who are looking to review their textbooks and donate to the Toys for Tots Foundation, please visit www.BookDecay.com. You can also contact Rocco Carzo by emailing him - rocco@BookDecay.com or calling 315.796.4555.
